LEDs in NJ

by Mark Rowe

Energy-saving and British LED illuminators also are in place to deter crime at a not-for-profit housing charity in New Jersey.

‘Habitat for Humanity’ approached a network product installer MTS Intelligent Surveillance about security. They particularly wanted to upgrade their CCTV lighting from their old sodium to LEDs. Having trialled several, MTS chose Raytec lighting. Rob Merchant, President of MTS, says: “I didn’t hesitate to recommend Raytec lighting to the director and general contractor responsible for renovating the facility. We had previously used Raytec and achieved great results. The Raytec lighting was so easy to work with and very simple to install and adjust, and the low voltage wiring further saves on costs.” The low pressure sodium lighting produced a dull, orange glow and an uneven spread of light, resulting in dark areas which were realistically unusable for CCTV. Since the charity has to pay the utility bills for the site, they also saw the energy and cost saving benefit in switching over to LED illuminators. Raytec adds that all its illuminators have a ten year life, have a low power consumption and low running costs, and require zero maintenance. Rob Merchant adds: “I am a complete fan of LED solutions, and I believe that they are a necessity for surveillance instead of generic style lighting. They have a very small footprint and are extremely cost effective. Raytec LED illuminators have the right capabilities at the right price and are specifically engineered for surveillance.”
