Access, video and security management solution at John Menzies plc’s global headquarters in Scotland has been installed by Reliance High-Tech.

The project, which took eight months from concept, saw a dedicated security network, with servers and work stations integrating Video Management, Access Control, Biometrics and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition). John Menzies plc’s Group Chief Security Officer Johan Lotriet says: “We had a clear concept for what we wanted to achieve and we looked at several service providers. We chose Reliance High Tech for the project based on their track record and they have delivered exactly what we wanted.”

The site has a daily throughput of around 450 staff and visitors, plus about 300 vehicles including delivery trucks. A database of approved vehicles ensures entry and movement of deliveries through a dedicated ANPR-controlled entrance.

“Not only does the system give our security managers much greater control, it’s also easy to use and allows us to add functionality as operational requirements change,” says Johan Lotriet.

As for internal security, segregated areas are demarked by speed lanes and the access control is integrated into a video management system, with cause and effect configured for enhance alarm handling and situational awareness.

Terry Sallas, pictured, MD of Reliance High-Tech, says: “John Menzies plc had a very strong vision of what they wanted to achieve and we were delighted to work with them to realise that vision. Our aim was to help select the right technology, set a new standard for the way this site is managed and to provide a foundation for the future with this exciting new customer.”
