IP-backbone for capital apartments

by Mark Rowe

A contract for an IP-converged electronic security system at St Edward Homes’ (a division of the Berkeley Group) ‘190 Strand’ development has gone to NG Bailey’s IT Services division.

The ICT contract, which is expected to be completed within 12 months, comes as part of a £13m award to NG Bailey to provide the infrastructure for mechanical, electrical and public health installation.

Work in central London was to begin in January 2015, when NG Bailey will fit structured cabling that will form a core Power-over Ethernet IP-backbone connecting each of the development’s apartments, townhouses and penthouses to a dedicated and centrally managed network. The site’s security, also being installed by NG Bailey, will consolidate all of the physical assets, such as door locks, access control, intercom systems and a 24-hour IP-CCTV system onto a single platform.

Alan Edgar, project director at St Edward, says: “It is helpful to find an engineering firm with an IT Services division capable of delivering a future-proofed data network and IP-converged security system, as is required by this high-end development. NG Bailey is one such firm. It can operate as a single entity and manage the whole installation as a sub-component of its wider mechanical, electrical and public health project. By procuring in this way we are able to retain a single point of contact, which will reduce some of the management and time pressures commonly associated with a development like 190 Strand.”

Indi Sall, pictured, technical director, NG Bailey’s IT Services division adds: “This project is a great opportunity for us to showcase how our Engineering and IT Services divisions work together, to complete a premium, highly-specified development. We are a leading authority on intelligent building systems design and implementation, so we look forward to guiding St. Edward through this part of the development, while the wider mechanical, electrical and public health aspects of the development progress unhindered.” Visit www.ngbailey.com.
