Institute award

The George van Schalkwyk Trophy is awarded annually to the Security Institute member making a significant contribution to security professionalism, and nominations are now open for 2013.

The Institute is looking for names of people who have made a difference – it could be for inspirational leadership, someone who has introduced something new and beneficial, or just sheer hard work and commitment to a cause which has made a difference to others in the sector. Spend a few minutes to nominate them.

Background

George van Schalkwyk was an Institute member who was killed in a helicopter accident in Afghanistan in 2006. The award is in his memory, and sponsored by Bruce Braes of SSSI in Australia. Recipients receive an etched de vecchi silver dish with a commemorative certificate, is presented at the Christmas function in December. Previous winners are:

David Gill CSyP FSyI, Ken Livingstone FSyI, Bill Wyllie CSyP FSyI, John Allan FSyI, Stewart Kidd CSyP SyI.

How to nominate

Email the name of the person you believe deserves recognition, with 50 words describing what they have contributed in 2013. Entries must be received by Friday, October 18.

There will then be an online vote by the membership the following week, and the award will be presented at the Remembrance Lecture on November 7 at Nomura – click here to book .
