Football stadium

A case study of the Panomera multifocal sensor cameras from Dallmeier, at a Dutch football stadium.

The Euroborg Stadium in Groningen, pictured, has been the home of FC Groningen since 2006. The roofed stadium seats 22,550 spectators, and is among a complex of shopping, office and residential properties. When the stadium managers were looking for suitable video security equipment, they got in touch with Dallmeier through the KNVB, the Royal Dutch Football Association.

Dian de Bruijn, the Safety and Security manager of FC Groningen, said: “We were impressed by the concept of multifocal sensor technology right from the start.” The security staff still wanted to test the system first. The products were tested over six months. The German CCTV manufacturers say that their Panomera multifocal sensor system is able to watch over a huge area from just a single location. It combines general overview and highest resolution at the same time: even more distant objects appear with the same defined resolution as objects in the image foreground. Dian de Bruijn said: “With just one camera, we have a complete view of a stand.” This reduces costs for infrastructure (masts, cables, electricity) compared with multiple HD cameras, according to the firm.

Panomera also solves the makers claim the problem associated with PTZ cameras, whereby the operator has to choose between an overview image and a detail view. With Panomera, the entire area of interest is always being recorded, no matter which area an operator is concentrating on in detail. This means that wherever an incident occurs, it can always be reconstructed and the individuals involved can be identified even after the fact.

Dian de Bruijn said: “The user interface with the management software is well organised and intuitive. And it is also much easier to navigate through a single, cohesive Panomera image than having to switch back and forth between multiple cameras.”

Images are recorded on a Dallmeier IPS 2400 video appliance . The recorded image material is admissible as evidence in court thanks to LGC Forensics certification.
