Ebola on TV

by Mark Rowe

The security and risk specialist Pilgrims Group Ltd reports that it’s helping organisations protect themselves from the Ebola outbreak in west Africa. Its teams are also supporting the effort to prevent spread of the disease to the UK.

In West Africa, the company is working with commercial businesses, media organisations and NGOs by offering training, risk assessment, contingency planning and decontamination equipment to teams operating in affected areas. In the UK, they are offering this to airports and the Government’s border agencies to provide staff training, equipment and other support.

James Milnes, leading specialist, said: “Prevention and protection are better than cure. In the case of Ebola where there is no cure – prevention and protection are the only option.”

The broadcaster ITV drew on the company for its Tonight programme special: Is the UK prepared for the arrival of Ebola? broadcast on October 16, at 7.30pm. ITV’s science correspondent asked how the UK is preparing for Ebola and asks if we are really ready. Pilgrims provided specialist advice and comment as to the preparations process, in addition to providing a practical run through and demonstration of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Pilgrims Group Managing Director, Bill Freear, said: “The devastating human cost of the Ebola crisis and its potential to destabilise the international community has been recognised as a global threat by the World Health Organisation, the United States Government and many international organisations. We welcome the chance to play a part in effectively preventing the spread and eventually controlling this dreadful disease.”
