Cookham Wood CCTV

by Mark Rowe

The YOI (Youth Offenders Institution) at Cookham Wood houses up to 131 young men between aged 15 to 18.

The prison needed to expand their CCTV system, having just built new housing and education blocks, meeting NOMS (National Offender Management Service) specifications. These specs require that the premises are secure and safe for inmates and staff, and that restrictions are enforced and behaviour monitored. Vigilant Technology has had a long-standing relationship with Cookham Wood, having installed Vigilant Xstream DVR series servers at the prison in Kent in 2008. Craig Vincent Director for Kronos Threat Management, said: “Reliability is a critical concern in a prison facility. As the Vigilant solution had been used at the prison for the past six years, we felt confident in choosing them for the major expansion. Vigilant has continually engineered CCTV solutions that are not only reliable, but support the highest level of surveillance.” Elite Hybrid DVRs and NetView Surveillance Center enable the prison to monitor legacy and newer IP-based kit. The Elite recorder works for analogue and IP video, while NetView works with the Elite product to support multiple sites and control centres.
