Business watch

by Mark Rowe

In Manchester, some 65 businesses from Tameside Business Park in Denton are joining a new scheme to help reduce crime.

Business Watch will see traders working with the local neighbourhood policing team and Tameside’s Crime Reduction Specialist to share information and crime prevention advice.
The scheme has been launched by PCSO Christine Hill from the Tameside West Neighbourhood Policing Team with support from the Crime Reduction Specialist.

Business Watch is being launched as part of Operation Advent, the GMP (Greater Manchester Police) op against crime during the festive season.

Tameside’s Crime Reduction Specialist, Judith Hackney, said: “Business Watch works in a similar way to Home Watch. Much like neighbours looking out for each other, businesses look out for each other and share useful information to help tackle crime.
“Where the scheme has been used elsewhere, it has been successful in preventing crime and also helps to build better relations between businesses.”

And Michele Dalgarno, Business Watch Coordinator said: “I think Tameside Business Watch will be good for the site as it will make tenants more security conscious and informed about what is going on in the area. It will also be beneficial to work closely with the neighbourhood policing team.”
