Better password habits

It takes 25 minutes for a hacker to crack a six digit password consisting of a-z characters, say IT security people. Yet the majority of people still tend to use the same, easy-to-guess password for all their social media and email accounts. An information security awareness consultancy The Security Company offers an insight into the problem in a new report on the company’s website.

 

 

“Effective password management will go a long way to reducing the number of people falling victim to threats such as identity theft and online fraud,” says The Security Company’s Hannah Tufts.  “We rely on multiple online accounts to manage our daily lives, but how many of us take a moment to consider what a fraudster could gain access to once they’ve stolen our username or email address and cracked our password?”
