The Blazing Saddles project in Scotland has security-marked a fleet of specialist bikes each worth thousands of pounds.
The bikes include recumbent cycles, wheelchair loading bikes, tandems and solo cycles and have been adapted as part of FABB Scotland’s All Ability Mobile Cycling Services.
Jan Brereton, Blazing Saddles Project Development Officer, said: “We have 10 bikes at 12 locations throughout Scotland with additional bikes coming on board as the project develops. The plan is to provide a ‘bike library’ scheme where bikes can be moved to different locations throughout Scotland to assist people with disabilities to go cycling with friends and family. This is supported by Scottish Disability Sport and all national cycling organisations.”
The bikes are stored securely when not in use and the charity maintains a central booking system to keep track of who last used the bike. BikeRegister was chosen to permanently mark the bikes, to act as a deterrent to theft.
Jan said: “These bikes provide a huge amount of enjoyment to those that use them and we are determined to keep them as safe as we can. BikeRegister will help us achieve that aim.”
