Passwordless System Safer for Business

by msecadm4921

Passwordless authentication might be the way forward for companies looking to bolster their Business Security. But how does it reduce the risk of a traditional password? And how could a passwordless system Make a Business Safer When Operating Online?

What is Passwordless Authentication?

Passwordless authentication is a security protocol that grants access to digital resources through the use of another device that the user has in their possession (such as a smartphone). This gets supported by a knowledge factor, often a piece of information such as a one-time code that gets sent to the user’s email address or mobile phone number. And, from this, an online system can authenticate an individual’s identity without the need for a password (hence the name).

How can it improve Business Security?

Often considered to be the Future of Online Business Security, passwordless authentication can help to protect companies from a significant number of threats.

For one, it helps eliminate numerous flaws often associated with Weak Password Management. No matter how much awareness there is of how to keep passwords safe, most users don’t use unique codes for each site. Thus, the repeated use of specific terms, as well as the tendency for human error when it comes to remembering passwords, can often leave individuals and companies open to being compromised.

A passwordless system removes such risks as it allows a user’s identity to be verified without the need of a long-term password that could potentially be breached. Moreover, the use of multiple private devices and sites that are available to a person, as well as time-sensitive authentication codes and encrypted security keys, can mitigate the danger if there are any issues.

Should companies shift to a Passwordless Authentication system

Passwordless, multi-factor authentication measures aren’t flawless. They can still be breached by malicious software, and management systems can also greatly lower the risk of traditional passwords. But now that we live in a digital age that often requires protection for hundreds of sites, businesses need to know that access to their resources is secure and safe for employee use.

Therefore, it is essential that companies aim to reduce the barriers and risks posed by simple password protection and look towards new forms of authentication. And a passwordless system might just be the answer.
