The Suzy Lamplugh Trust held its eighth annual personal safety awards on Thursday afternoon, March 23, at Church House, Deans Yard in central London, only yards from the cordon after the terror attack on Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, 24 hours before. The gathering began by holding a minute’s silence in memory of the victims.
Awards went to Dame Vera Baird QC (safer workplace), Rotherham Steering Group (safer community), Christina O’Kelly (inspiring individual), Dr Jane Monckton-Smith (taking stalking seriously), Safer Wyre Forest and the ContinU Trust, and Robert May’s School, Hampshire (joint award – young person’s safety), University of the West of Scotland (safer campus), Hayley Child, Lincolnshire County Council (best safety campaign, for the ‘Ask for Angela’ idea), and Sarah Ryan of Nutrician Early Life Nutrition (the Peoplesafe personal safety champion).
Ian Johannessen, director of the event sponsor Peoplesafe, and the Trust’s chief exec Rachel Griffin spoke.
