Roy's Monthly Gossip

Unashamed ST promotion

by Mark Rowe

Easter is over and now it’s the May half term we are all looking forward to. As we speak I am packing to go away on my first holiday for some time but you don’t want to know about that, do you.

Gossip then. Lynne Allen has joined IDIS. Lynn, who is Manchester-based, will be further developing the company’s partnerships with distributors, systems integrators, and end users across the north. She brings more than 20 years’ security industry and sales experience to her new role, including time with Honeywell, TDSi and Aiphone. Good luck Lynne.

Now some of you will know that James Walker from Dallmeier has been struck down over the last couple of years with the dreaded cancer. I am pleased to say that some two years after he was told he only had six months left to live is that he is still with us and fighting the big ‘C’ better than anyone I’ve ever met, but then James was always a fighter and was determined not to let such a thing take him down. Why am I mentioning this? because his son Ashley Walker has moved into the company. He is a Project Sales Manager but has plans to ultimately take over James’ baby, his words by the way. I think that’s great because the one thing you can say about Dallmeier is that it’s always been about its people; sure, great products as well but they are very personable and approachable, it’s like dealing with your mates. Good luck Ashley and James we are all still rooting for you mate.

Let’s talk Suprema for a minute. You may or may not know that Gareth Goodall has joined them as a Business Development Manager. Now Gareth has been in the industry since 1999 and spent just over 18 years at Norbain, then had four and half years at Comelit; I am sure he is going to be a great asset to the Suprema team.

Videcon are having a few changes, you may have heard. I already reported that Dave Tate joined them at the beginning of the year as the Sales Director and it seems he has managed to pull over the ex-marketing manager from ADI, Richard Mazurkiewicz (yeah, I can’t say it either, so he is known as the mighty Maz!). He joins them as Marketing Director. But at the same time Andy Shepherd has left them after over 17 years of service. He is joining TYCO Security, I assume on the products side?

TIS the installer from Mansfield has expanded some more after the appointment of Mark Babington I reported on a few months ago; they now have recruited Kevin Willetts who has been hired for a newly created role of Non-Executive Director of Strategic Growth and Partnerships, a position that sits on the TIS leadership team and reports directly to the CEO James Twigg, who was interviewed in last month’s edition and who I recall seeing at ST22 Birmingham.

And talking of installers, Evolution has announced details of an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). That will see its staff become majority owners of the business. It is believed to be the first of the major independent security systems integrators to make such a scheme. Seems like a great idea to me. Evolution celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021. In keeping with similar schemes, the Trust is effectively acquiring 77pc of the company, which will be paid for by on-going company profits until such time as the agreed purchase price is met. Every EOT member will then share in the profits for as long as they are part of the business. Current owners and founders Richard Lambert and John Wust will retain 23pc of the company for management continuity, and as a signal of their commitment to employees and customers alike.

Allied Universal who you will recall are the American owners of G4S, have made the acquisition of Attenti Group, an electronic monitoring company. Allied will integrate Attenti Group with G4S Monitoring Technologies, to create Allied Universal Electronic Monitoring Services. The combined business has pro-forma 2021 revenues of over $150m and operations in 35 countries. David Byrne, Managing Director, G4S Monitoring Technologies will lead the combined business and Yoav Reisman, CEO of Attenti Group, will be vice-chairman.

And last but not least on the gossip front I am pleased to report that Mark Wall at Amberstone has been promoted after just eight months with the company, to become Director of Business Development, well done Mark. Mr MD watch out Mark’s nipping at your heels!?

So now for some unashamed promotion, because our next Security TWENTY is ST22 Glasgow, have you registered yet (pictured is a ST21 Glasgow scene from last autumn)? Come on what you waiting for, it’s free to attend and I will even buy you breaky. After that we move to Cardiff, a first for us, then June to Manchester. Then, after many discussions with various venues, we are doing our week in Ireland in September, first Belfast then down to Dublin. Same month is our fantastic Women in Security (WiS) awards night at the Shakespeare Underglobe theatre, then we finish our events in November at the flash Radisson Red at Heathrow. Yep they have upgraded the Park Inn and it wasn’t just a lick of paint, I can assure you. No excuse, as we will be coming near to you for sure.
