Wireless PIRs

A new bracket from Luminite enables Genesis 2 wireless PIRs to be mounted back to back for a curtain detection span of 120m. Pictured are Genesis PIRs back to back mounted.

Luminite Electronics, manufacturer of the Genesis 2 wireless passive infra-red detectors, now provides a bracket for mounting two detectors back to back. By using two LG2WP6004 detectors, each with a 60m detection range, the new bracket enables ‘curtain’ detection spans of up to 120m.

Graham Creek, MD at Luminite, says: “The Genesis 2 uses high-gain, black mirror optics for intrusion detection. The 60m x 4m Genesis 2 PIRs provide detection at up to 60m, even when facing directly into the sun and regardless of the detection target’s speed or movement. Mounting two G2s back to back means the curtain coverage can easily reach 120m.”

The G2’s black mirror optics reflect an intruder’s infra-red body heat into its quad in-line pyro-sensors. The makers add that the black mirrors reduce false alarms by filtering out the white light elements in reflected sun light and glare from car headlights. An alarm is only raised if both channels of the pyro-sensor activate, not just one, which reduces false alarms further. The G2’s adaptive zoom focal length means the PIRs will sense evenly over their entire detection range. A target’s distance away and corresponding size is understood by the PIR and its detection capability is largely unaffected by the target’s motion or speed. The result is that the Genesis 2 will distinguish between a human and an animal, even at 60m and even if the target is moving quickly, it is claimed.

The Genesis 2 PIR detector’s case is IP 65 rated and made from weather-proof ABS. It has front access for on-site fitting and adjustment. It can even be set up to look down or along a wall.

The PIRs are available in wired or wireless variants. The wireless variant uses radio communications to enable up to 64 PIRs within each Genesis 2 to communicate with a single Masthead transceiver. The wireless communication range is typically 1km, essential for industrial areas and large expanses of open ground.
