Manta is a portable or fixed under-vehicle inspection product. Users, typically in prisons or at embassies and airports, use it to identify suspect objects attached to the underside of vehicles. The product comes with laptop and software, automated for real-time viewing. You can upgrade to MANTA Extreme for detection of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and automatic number plate recognition mismatches. The UK-made product inspects the under side of of up to six cars a minute, say the makers Amba Defence. A high resolution image shows the complete underside of the vehicle, including part numbers and markings on screws and bolts.

Typically this under vehicle inspection can resolve 1mm. Under normal operation vehicles do not touch the unit; however the product is tough enough to withstand an impact, the company adds. One person can deploy the product, which measures 97cm across by 49cm wide and 7.1cm high. It has a carrying handle and can be carried in the boot of a car. The company, which recently opened a new office in Stow-on-the-Wold, also runs a monitoring centre. The company also offers and consults on CCTV, access control, alarms, gates and fencing, body armour, manhole covers, Tetra radio, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones.
