Temporary, deployable barriers

by Mark Rowe

The street furniture and bollard company Townscape Products has launched a new range of temporary, deployable security barriers. They’re aimed at UK event and festival organisers for protecting crowds from vehicle terrorism.

The new VAW range, pictured, is designed for temporary use and engineered for the event management sector, the Nottinghamshire-based firm says. Townscape offers this new VAW range with an advisory service to assess needs of events in terms of location, access points, perimeter and expected attendance numbers.

Jonathan Goss, managing director at Townscape Products, said: “Following a spate of horrific UK terror attacks targeting major events as well as public crowds using speeding vehicles – there is a concern that the general public may be more hesitant about going along to popular events they would ordinarily attend without a second thought. Our new VAW range has been created to act as a visible deterrent that stops would-be terror attacks from happening. Temporary concrete blocks and barriers that fortify the perimeter of event spaces deter terrorists and make the public feel safe and confident in their attendance.”

The 2.2 tonne CT Sentry Block is a temporary, deployable version of the PAS 68 rated Townscape counter terror block. These blocks are daisy-chained together with 1200mm pedestrian crossing points between blocks. The system can also include secure vehicle access points as required.

Jonathan Goss adds: “Nothing is of more paramount importance than public safety and in the current climate perimeter security can provide the public with the peace of mind required to attend an event with confidence. Our VAW offering enables organisers to boost security at short-term pop-up events such as festivals, fairs, fetes, concerts and carnivals with temporary perimeter security. The service is also ideal for protecting music festivals, food festivals and indeed craft ale festivals against the treat of vehicle borne terrorism.

“The system can be delivered at late notice and one of our representatives will oversee the whole process until the product is removed – leaving organisers free to focus on putting on a good show.”
