Protection campaign

by msecadm4921

A new campaign seeks to raise awareness of the value of personal information and the importance of protecting it. It is estimated that over £4.2 billion is lost within the UK to scams such as online shopping, property investment and account take-over fraud. Further information: visit www.actionfraud.police.uk.

In ‘The Devil’s in Your Details’ campaign, which launched on March 14, the public are being encouraged to change the way they treat their personal details and introduce safeguards into day-to-day activities, which may help protect them from fraud.

Outlining what should and shouldn’t be shared over the phone, online and in person, the campaign uses the following SAFE messages to highlight what to look out for:

    * Suspect anything or anyone you don’t know – no matter what or who they claim to be.
    * Ask questions. Whatever a fraudster tries, you have the power to stay in control.
    * Find out for certain who you’re dealing with.Challenge anything that seems suspect.
    * End situations that make you uncomfortable. If you feel threatened, contact the police.

In the first campaign of its kind involving both the private and public sector, ‘The Devil’s in Your Details’ brings together Action Fraud (the UK’s national fraud and internet crime reporting and support centre), The Telecommunications UK Fraud Forum (TUFF) and Financial Fraud Action UK. It aims to increase the reporting of fraud, therefore making it harder for fraudsters to target consumers.
