Powered gate training

by Mark Rowe

Some 250 powered gate installers and specialists have completed the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) powered gate safety diploma training course. With more courses planned, the number of trainees is set to rise to 500 by the end of 2015, the federation adds.

The two-day scheme was launched at the end of 2013 by the DHF Powered Gate Group, looking to increase safety in the sector. The group represents manufacturers, suppliers, installers and maintainers of powered automatic gates and gate automation equipment. The course is aimed at all those responsible for the safety of automatically controlled powered gates including installers, inspectors and those responsible for gate maintenance.

Delegates cover all aspects of gate safety from initial risk assessment through to force testing – to obtain their DHF gate safety diplomas. Topics covered include law and regulations, use of standards, risk assessment, testing and inspection, documentation, repair and maintenance. It is compulsory for all DHF Powered Gate Group to put their personnel through the scheme. It allows member companies to use the DHF Safety Assured mark.

The diploma course is led by Nick Perkins, DHF training officer. He said: “Raising standards of safety in the industry continues to be the driving force of the federation. Thorough and comprehensive training for all those responsible for powered gate safety will underpin our commitment to significantly raising levels of powered gate safety.”

The DHF adds that its gate safety diploma training scheme is open to all DHF members and to non-members responsible for installation, assessment and inspection of powered gates. Monthly training courses have now been arranged to Easter 2015. For dates and venues, and to book places visit http://www.dhfonline.org.uk/training.aspx.
