Physical Security

New at Lisburn factory

by Mark Rowe

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the physical security and door opening product company, reports it has new technologies at its Lisburn factory in Northern Ireland.

Two new Salvagnini systems are set to help enhance the site’s manufacturing capabilities, including the firm says on lead times, productivity and reduced environmental impact. The spend includes the acquisition of a Salvagnini P4lean-3216 panel bender, to replace an existing older model, and a Salvagnini L1X-30 fibre laser system.

The new panel bender will enable the firm’s SMARTform technology to fold doors more accurately and quickly, while its MAC 2.0 software ensures folding results remain at a consistent standard. The software helps identify any potential issues with a door during the manufacturing process. The panel bender will be able to process 90 per cent of the organisation’s total door range. Meanwhile, a new fibre laser – due to be installed in December – will do industrial laser cutting, combining sheet metal processing with a precise cut quality.

The site was awarded the ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management earlier this year. Consumption of electricity and oil is reduced with the new Salvagnini systems, resulting in lower running costs.

Neil Chambers, Production Manager at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said: “The new system has allowed us to streamline production by improving areas and removing some unwanted processes that were labour intensive and costly. The move reflects our commitment to improving operational efficiencies while investing in sustainable technology. In the near future, we believe these new technologies will positively impact on lead times, product design and overall product quality.”
