Door handle

by Mark Rowe

The electronic security product distributor Norbain can now offer customers a door handle from PAC for the securing of internal doors.

The new EL Smart Door Handle (SDH) is a battery-operated electronic escutcheon which provides a solution for electronic access control in commercial and residential applications, the firms say.
The handle can be used as a stand-alone device, or connected wirelessly to PAC’s intuitive access control software.

Stand-alone

When configured in standalone mode, the EL SDH provides a battery life of up to two years. With all credentials added to the EL SDH locally, it offers an upgrade to a site’s security. When batteries run low the EL SDH has visual indicators and batteries can be replaced within minutes it’s claimed.

When connected to the PAC software, any key-holder updates, events and the battery status are all transmitted to the controlling software providing real-time data of all the important information on the system. The PC administrator can set up time profiles to each SDH allowing free access to areas during defined times while maintaining security at all other times. Adding or removing credentials can be done in the same way as a standard card reader.

The handle meets EN1906 and comes in 72, 90 and 92mm Euro profile centres and is suitable for doors with thicknesses from 30 to 110mm.

The handle features a stainless steel housing. It comes with an integral reader module capable of reading PAC’s Smart Ops cards and tokens, plus the protocols MIFARE and MIFARE DESFire EV1.
