Blast resistant door tests

by Mark Rowe

CSI Safetell reports that its blast resistant doors have achieved the top level of certification in new Government tests. The firm claims that it’s now the only UK door solutions provider offering steel doors certified to the latest standard.

The company’s ‘Stronghold Plus’ blast resistant door was tested by Government appointed staff at a secure specialist facility in the north of England during September 2014. It passed with a designation of ‘Minimum Risk – Very High Protection’. Testing to the Government’s new standards involves withstanding 500kgs of explosive from 28 metres, equivalent to an explosion associated with a lorry packed with explosives and then detonated 28 metres from a target.

The door has now been entered on to the Government’s supplier register for blast resistant solutions. The door is also bullet resistant, intrusion resistant, and has a four hour fire rating to BS476 (Part 22).

Safetell Managing Director Anton Pieterse said: “Terrorism and criminal selection of softer targets are driving the need for improved protection, including blast resistant doors. The Stronghold Plus door is an obvious choice for buildings that may be at risk; and can offer additional protection against bullets, intrusion and fire.”

About the door

CSI Safetell’s anti-intrusion door range consists of three levels of security providing protection from physical and ballistic attack to G1 or G2 BS 5051. The Stronghold 3 can be certified to FB3 protection and the Stronghold 4 to FB4 – all in accordance with EN 1522 level of ballistic security resistance. All the range’s doors can be manufactured in many sizes, colours and with a number of levels of security locking options, from a basic mortise lock to a full safe lock.
The doors are independently tested to provide up to four hour fire rating.
