Physical Security

Ballistic doors

by Mark Rowe

The O2 Arena, the music and sports indoor venue at Greenwich in south east London, has Hillsborough BR4 ballistic doors from Abloy UK. The physical security product company says the install was to protect occupants from specialised weapons or gun fire.

In 2017 the venue faced a problem. Their interior doors were no longer fit for purpose due to the wear and damage caused from the flow of people entering the site. The Arena sought doors which could ensure the safety of visitors and staff from fire or attacks. Abloy UK says it had an understanding of the security requirements from working on critical national infrastructure projects across varied sectors. Abloy UK provided a survey, supply, install and saw the job was carried out with one main point of contact.

At the survey stage it was agreed that to ensure the level of security needed and to provide a door which was fire rated, the most suitable door was the

They were also fire certified. Abloy UK were able to produce a bespoke colour, O2 blue, to matching the site’s colour scheme. Abloy UK add that they were in contact with Wren Construction, the main contractors on site throughout the job and were able to adapt to any requests during the process.
