Accolade for audio engineer

by Mark Rowe

David Boxall’s career in the public address (PA) industry spans more than 45 years and for the past 35 he has been the ‘Boxall’ in the product manufacturer Baldwin Boxall. Before setting up that company with Terry Baldwin in 1982, David was principal electronic design engineer at Millbank Electronics, having started in audio with Sound Diffusion and germanium transistors.

David Boxall has designed many products for the public address industry, from 100V line amplifiers, hearing loop amplifiers, PA and VA, system surveillance monitoring units, automatic ambient noise sensing and level adjustment circuits to digital signal processing and routeing units.

David Boxall is still very much hands on and involved with the technical direction of the company. Having spent a lifetime on the technology of the PA industry, he was nominated by Peter Mapp to be the first recipient of a new ISCE (Institute of Sound & Communications Engineers) award.

David Boxall thanked everyone at the institute involved in organising and presenting the award to him. He said: “I am thrilled to receive this award – it was totally unexpected. It is a real honour to receive recognition for my work, especially as it is linked with Hayden Warren and Peter Barnett, both of who I knew well and held in such high esteem.”

Baldwin Boxall are among exhibitors at Intersec 2018 in Dubai in January, having recently gained Civil Defence Approval in the Middle East.
