Recording products

The Vectis iX family of IP-based video recording products has been launched by Security Products from Siemens. It includes self-contained network video recorders (NVR) as well as network video software (NVS) for server-based systems. Both can record full-HD images from up to 48 cameras at once, at 25 frames per second and support resolutions of up to 20 megapixel.

The products feature a modular design according to the company. The makers say that they are for use in IP-based CCTV applications of all types – from small retail installations to campus-wide systems.

All products use the latest H.264 video compression standard for minimum network bandwidth usage. They work with the MPEG4 and MJPEG standards, and support the latest ONVIF Profile S standard, which allows them to be used not only with cameras from Siemens, but also with those from about 90 third-party manufacturers.

The built-in VSS_SDK (software developer kit) interface allows Vectis iX systems to be integrated with the Siemens MM8000 access control and fire safety system. Besides object detection, the on-board video analytics also offers object removal. All models feature people counting, of use it’s claimed in retail and sports venues.

NVR models are available in six, 16, 32 and 48 channel versions. They support an internal recording capacity of up to 24 TB (2 TB for the six-channel model); more recording capacity can be added externally. The NVS software is available in eight, 16, 32, 48 and 64 channel versions, with storage capacity determined by the configuration of the server.

The Vectis iX products are the makers say suited for use with the Siemens CMS (Central Management Software) package, which allows users to control and monitor multiple sites from any point on the network. CMS is also compatible with Siemens Sistore analogue video recorders. This lets a user upgrade installations by initially operating Vectis iX products alongside existing Sistore devices. The migration to the new platform can then be completed step by step as funds become available.
