IP video door entry

by Mark Rowe

The Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2014 “Best London Home” was awarded to 375 Kensington High Street, a project by UK property developer, St. Edward, which is part of the Berkeley Group. Urmet supplied IP video door entry.

The luxury apartments in the centre of London start at nearly £1m. St. Edwards requiredaccess control to meet the needs and expectations of future residents. The development includes seven individual buildings, comprising 1000 apartments in total. All are linked using a single, site-wide IP network, with concierge services including a private gym, cinema, business suite and swimming pool.

The IPervoice system installed at 375 Kensington High Street also features a two-door controller called the “PIO” Controller, which is connected to an IP LAN interface and two Wiegand readers (A 2-door expansion card can be stacked on the base unit to increase the capacity up to four doors). Both devices operate simultaneously and grant access in the event of a network outage as all access permissions are saved in the IP interface.

The IP interface and base controller are also locally powered by a 12V DC PSU, which can be connected to a battery back up in the event of a power loss. The IPervoice front end has been updated (Software release 4.1) to incorporate the programming of this new hardware with a new menu called ‘IP modules’ allowing the PIO controller and LAN interface to be configured. This feature means that current Secured By Design requirements and recommendations for communal dwellings are met.

The entrance to each building, which enjoys a Harrods Concierge Service, also features a slim-line bespoke post, specially made by Urmet. The video door-entry panel has been integrated into this custom-made post, which is colour coded to blend into the aesthetics of the development.

Manji Gami, Urmet’s MD, said: “We are very pleased to be part of such a prestigious development. Our Elekta Glass Panel is a sleek, timeless design and fits well with the modern template being created within this development. The fact that this collection of apartments and penthouses has been awarded the Evening Standard award for “Best London Home” speaks volumes for the attention to detail that St. Edward has paid to the design and decoration, as well as the security and technology that is required for high-end residential projects.”
