Hospital cameras

by Mark Rowe

Bushehr City is the capital of Bushehr Province, in southeastern Iran, with a population of over 200,000. One of the biggest hospitals in Bushehr City, Khalij Hospital, commissioned Pooya Fara Negar (PFN), VIVOTEK’s local distributor, to install a security network in March. Some 208 VIVOTEK cameras, including 80 FD8166, 95 FD8136, 15 PZ8121, one FD8162, 15 IP8362, and two SD8362E were deployed in various corners of the hospital. For corridors and indoor areas, the FD8166 and FD8136 models were installed. FD8166 and FD8136 are fixed dome network cameras with a diameter of only 90 mm; for use in small spaces. The Taiwanese makers claim a set up time of less than 120 seconds at installation.

The PZ8121, a Power over Ethernet (PoE) pan tilt and zoom network camera, was installed at the nurse station, pictured, because it features 10x optical zoom and pan/tilt, suitable it is claimed for the nurse station, which is the first line that protects patient safety. The FD8162 has wide dynamic range (WDR), which offers an extended camera range that covers a larger span between bright and dark areas in the image. WDR cameras are generally used in places with high contrast lighting, such as building entrances and areas near windows. This made the FD8162 the most suitable product to be installed at the entrances of Khalij. VIVOTEK’s IP8362, designed with a removable IR-cut filter and built-in infra-red illuminators for both day and night applications and IP67-rated housing, is an outdoor bullet network camera for outdoor applications. As for the speed dome network camera SD8362E, it offers full HD resolution and WDR Pro, which enables users to identify image details in bright as well as dark places. The SD8362E with a 20x optical zoom lens is able to capture details. For these reasons, the IP8362 and SD8362E were selected for the outdoor areas of the hospital. VIVOTEK ST7501 video management software offers recording and video management. It provides live media data, and playback, all of which can be installed and operated on a single computer or separate computers according to the client. The software is able to record up to 32 network video channels. For video playback, functions such as searching, browsing, and exporting can be used.
