Hadrian’s Wall trek

by Mark Rowe

Eight staff from product distributor Mayflex took part in a 23 mile trek along Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The challenge on Saturday, August 2 saw an early – 6am – start for registration at Lanercost Priory, outside Carlisle, before the team and the other 280 taking part were transferred to the start of the walk, at Brocolitia Roman Fort.

The walk was estimated to take a minimum of 12 hours but two members of the Mayflex MAD team were in the first few to finish, with a time of just under nine hours with the remaining team all crossing the finish line at Lanercost Priory within ten hours.

Tracey Calcutt, Marketing Manager said: ‘Due to the fact that a number of us at Mayflex have close relatives that suffer from dementia, we thought it was the perfect challenge to help raise much needed funds. I am delighted to say that the team has so far raised over £8000 and donations are still coming in. The weather wasn’t overly kind to us with heavy rain showers throughout the day, but the temperature was good for walking and thankfully we all had waterproof clothing that kept most of the rain at bay. The actual walk itself was quite tough and particularly the first half which was the most challenging with steep climbs and descents, that wasn’t helped by the rain which made the stone paths extremely slippy.”

She thanked everyone who has sponsored them: “We very much appreciate the support and it’s not too late for anyone wishing to, visit https://www.justgiving.com/MayflexTeam or to view more details on the people that took part visit https://www.justgiving.com/teams/Mayflex.”
