Eight-channel NVR

by Mark Rowe

A network video recorder (NVR) operates independently of a PC or other operating systems. It differs from a traditional DVR in that it connects directly to a network or a networked camera. Thanks to the embedded system, NVRs can record video data in real time and in digital format. VIVOTEK’s most recent launch, the ND8301, is an eight-channel NVR, with an Intel Dual-core Atom Processor with maximum recording throughput of 96 Mbps. RAID 0/1 is supported by two removable HDDs as backup, with an external eSATA port for more expansion. Designed with an integral HD monitor output with full HD resolution (1920X1080), the recorder can remove the need for another PC to view video from the unit. It also streams high resolution per channel, without any compromise to image quality, the makers say.

Users set up parameters such as IP, HDD and basic camera configuration with the set-up wizard. The unit is fully integrated with VIVOTEK network cameras allowing users to build a wired or wireless IP system. VAST, VIVOTEK’s professional central management software, is embedded, into the NVR, allowing for management of CCTV using the LiveClient and Playback programmes.

As the company’s camera features are fully integrated into VAST, technologies such as SVC and Activity Adaptive Recording can be used to conserve bandwidth and optimise recording. A CMS server running VAST software can also control the recorder, and compatibility with the iViewer application allows for remote access to the product on handheld devices.
