Camera Companion launch

by Mark Rowe

The network video product company Axis Communications has launched the Axis Camera Companion 3 with Axis Secure Remote Access, as well as a new 64GB microSDXC card for edge storage.

AXIS Surveillance microSDXC Card 64GB is a memory card for surveillance applications, made with flash torage product firm SanDisk; and AXIS Camera Companion 3 is an upgrade of its software for small systems.

Peter Friberg, Axis’ Director Solution Management, says: “The penetration of AXIS Camera Companion in small businesses shows that users really appreciate the simplicity, ease-of-installation and freedom of use that it offers. This new version further streamlines the installation process and provides even more flexibility for small security systems.”

Oded Sagee, senior director and general manager of Connected and Computing Solutions at SanDisk, says: “Working with Axis, a market leader in network video, we have gained unique insight into the needs and requirements of surveillance applications, thus allowing us to optimise our products for this use. Our vertically integrated approach and expertise in flash memory enables us to architect our industrial grade storage solutions to provide the reliability needed to offer trusted performance that’s absolutely critical for the security and surveillance markets.”

Axis points to edge storage as useful in one to four channel AXIS Camera Companion systems, offering de-centralised video recording and eliminating the cost and risk with more centralised solutions. The AXIS Surveillance microSDXC Card 64GB is delivered with a SD card adapter and supported by Axis three-year warranty.

AXIS Camera Companion’s new version, AXIS Camera Companion 3, introduces Axis Secure Remote Access, which removes the need of manual port forwarding and router configuration, thus enabling encrypted communication between cameras and smartphone or PC clients. The makers add that Camera Companion 3 offers an updated user interface with instant camera switching in live view; and sharper client de-warping for use of overview cameras with 360 degree views.

The new AXIS Surveillance microSDXC Card 64GB will be available through Axis sales channels during the second quarter of 2015. And the new AXIS Camera Companion 3 software client will be available for free download from http://www.axis.com/products/cam_companion_software/index.htm during the second quarter of 2015.
