ANPR camera

by Mark Rowe

Genetec Inc, the IP security product company, has announced AutoVu SharpV, pictured. It’s a new fixed ANPR (automated number plate recognition) camera with onboard processing.

The firm will unveil and show the camera at the IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police) conference in San Diego, California, from October 15 to 18, 2016, booth #3517. The AutoVu SharpV camera is expected to be available in early December 2016 from Genetec channel partners and resellers.

AutoVu SharpV is designed for fixed ANPR installations. It can be tied into citywide video systems for investigations, reporting, monitoring, and is the Canadian firm says suited for controlling access to corporate facilities, as well as managing off-street parking. The SharpV-ITS model will offer a solution aimed at the intelligent transport sector.

Featuring a new design, the camera can be mounted on walls or poles. With power and communication transferring through a Power-over- Ethernet plus (PoE+) connection, and a varifocal lens design that allows installers to adjust the focal distance of the camera on site for optimal image capture, the new SharpV provides flexibility during deployment, the makers say.

With high-definition ANPR and context cameras and onboard processing in a single device, the SharpV includes various analytics such as vehicle make and direction of travel.

Chris Yigit, Program Manager for AutoVu, said: “The new AutoVu SharpV is the result of over 15 years of specialized ALPR design experience, so it’s much more than an upgrade. It features premium performance without any of the challenges that often accompany ANPR projects. Not only does it include all the features of our previous generation Sharp ANPR cameras, but it also brings a whole new level of image precision, combined with ease of installation at a lower price point. With our new SharpV, ANPR has never been easier.”

The SharpV can also be integrated with Omnicast, the IP video surveillance system of Security Center, the Genetec IP security platform. The SharpV can stream live video to Omnicast, doubling as video surveillance unit and recorded video can be associated with ANPR hits. SharpV also supports the AutoVu Free Flow parking enforcement module, by providing a real-time inventory of vehicles parked illegally in monitored parking lots. Visit: http://www.genetec.com/sharpv.
