Software releases

by Mark Rowe

SeeTec, the video management software firm, twice a year publishes new releases of its products. At the end of May the R12 version of SeeTec Cayuga and SeeTec BVI were announced.

In SeeTec Cayuga, an improved map mode offers a better overview of a video project. The developers say it is now easier to locate cameras, or alarms, no matter what zoom level has been chosen. Cameras can be configured in groups and the icon library for maps has been extended so that a user can now identify what type of camera is used. A new “field of view” function for cameras can be configured to show which area the camera is covering. The opacity of the beam that indicates the field of view can be adjusted and any alarm associated with a camera can be identified by the icon turning red. Thus, the whole use of maps, as well as the interaction with them, for example for drawing attention to an event or locating an alarm, are more intuitive, resulting in shorter response times on critical incidents.

In recent years there has been a trend towards more live operation of video surveillance, especially in public spaces, such as airports or train stations. With R12, the demand for smoother video feeds for these kinds of applications has been covered by making smooth streaming the default preference for video feeds. As for decoding and displaying of video: more cameras can be visualised simultaneously; this also covers the demand for smooth playback of high-res streams (4k and higher) as well as streams with a high frame rate. When reaction time is essential, for instance when working with pan and tilt cameras, the user can always switch to low latency mode to minimise the time lag.

A redesigned Alarm Search Panel already shows more information at a glance and, when expanded, presents the details in a more straightforward way. The SeeTec Analytics Server 3D now offers a new 2D mode to address facade detection applications. The SeeTec License Plate Recognition can detect more license plate types. New analytics tools for people counting or for left behind objects are available with deeply integrated analytics software from our technology partner Forlan.

SeeTec BVI also sees numerous tweaks. The software tool to link video data with other business processes also has a redesigned search mode that offers new functionalities and sorting options. Processes that require a large number of images to be exported can now be supported. By using SeeTec BVI R12, for example in logistics applications, more than 320,000 pictures per day can be handed over to third party systems. Use cases here are the documentation of the transfer of liability in the tracking of shipments where a complete image documentation is needed.

Customers with a valid Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) can already download and install the update to SeeTec Cayuga R12 and SeeTec BVI R12 (available June 11). The installation can be done manually or via the built in Auto Updater, which for the first time can also be used for keeping SeeTec BVI up to date.
