Rapiscan at Counter Terror Expo

by Mark Rowe

Rapiscan Systems, a security inspection product supplier, is showcasing its explosive, radiation and nuclear detecting equipment at Counter Terror Expo 2013 on stand K55.

Using technologies such as Ultra-IMS and Hi-Z detection, Rapiscan offers products such as the HE50 and the Auto-Z detection software.
The HE50 combines explosives trace detection capabilities in a handheld device, weighing four pounds. Suitable the firm says for applications such as event security, rapid transit security, border protection and law enforcement, the HE50 can detect a range of explosives such as TATPM, TNT, Smokeless Powder and others, more reliably and faster it is claimed than alternative security screening systems. Using non-contact inhalation sampling, it can also detect explosive traces from the ambient environment, packages, or other surfaces that may have absorbed explosive residues.

Requiring no calibration, the makers add, the HE50 allows operators to save time and speed screening throughput and, unlike competing systems that require customers to frequently purchase expensive consumables, it has according to the makers minimal on-going costs.

Rapiscan will also be discussing the development of its Auto-Z software solution, which was created to add functionality to its Rapiscan Eagle M60, used to scan trucks and containers, to detect high-density nuclear material that could be concealed within cargo. Following research projects by Rapiscan, the Eagle M60 can now provide automatic detection of high-atomic number (Hi-Z) materials associated with nuclear weapons as well as shielding materials in the X-Ray image.

Rapiscan Systems meanwhile has announced that it has received an order of approximately $6 million for service and maintenance of its baggage inspection systems utilised at US airports.
