People screening contract

by Mark Rowe

Digital Barriers reports a framework contract with G4S, the multi-national security company, for its ThruVis people screening. G4S will market, sell and support ThruVis in continental Europe, covering 19 countries. Digital Barriers add there is also the potential to include other products.

ThruVis, the makers say, detects all types of items concealed under clothing, including non-metallics like explosives and ceramic knives, at stand-off distances of up to ten metres it’s claimed. The deployable product operates without compromising people throughput, safety or privacy, the firms say. In the United States, the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has made deployments in preparation for a wider roll-out. At the March 2017 UK Government Security & Policing invite-only exhibition in Farnborough, ThruVis was part of an official high throughput screening demonstration operated by G4S, where the technology achieved a screening rate of up to 1,000 people per hour at peak times – estimated to be more than five times faster than traditional security lanes, according to the firms.

ThruVis can also now be deployed alongside the Group’s SmartVis Face product, to raise alarms when concealed threats or people who may present a security risk enter protected locations. SmartVis Face has been designed to deliver standoff screening against known watch lists, and was also showcased at the UK Government Security & Policing event to delegations.

Zak Doffman, CEO of Digital Barriers, said: “In recent weeks we have announced that the US Transportation Security Administration and now G4S have both backed ThruVis as a game-changing technology that meets a pressing security need without disrupting people flow or detracting from public or traveller experience. The addressable market for this solution is now being measured in many thousands of units over the coming years, which will deliver a very significant payback on the ten years of development and investment that has resulted in this unique technology.”
