Infosec date in UAE

by Mark Rowe

SANS Gulf Region 2012, an infosec training events will run at the Hilton Dubai Jumeirah from October 13 to 25. Courses will cover virtualisation, cloud security, hacker techniques and incident handling.

Organisers point to a recent study by Intel and Dell, among small businesses only 2pc of companies have moved all of their applications to a cloud-based infrastructure while 85pc have concerns about doing so. Security (28pc) and privacy (20pc) were the most commonly reported primary concerns.

Dave Shackleford, information security author and teacher, says: “The concerns are real and it stems from a fundamental issue – your IT is in somebody else’s environment and many people find that idea scary. You don’t have clear visibility over what level of security and control is in place which makes assessing and managing risk much more complex.”

SANS Gulf 2012 will also host SANS Security 504: Hacker Techniques, Exploits and Incident Handling.

Gareth Dance, GSEC Conference Director for EMEA at the SANS Institute, adds: “The event is a welcome return to Dubai and last year proved both an incredible learning experience and a great opportunity to network, We still have a few places left on all of the courses but the event is filling up rapidly so I would recommend anybody that is interested in attending should act fast.”
