Essen 2016 reviewed

by Mark Rowe

Visitors from the UK to Security Essen registered proportionally high compared to visitors from other countries, report organisers after the 2016 trade show closed on September 30.

According to Sergey Alexeev, Union of International Fairs (UFI) President and Kai Hattendorf, UFI Managing Director: “Exhibitions and other types of events are particularly crucial in difficult times – as seen in the global financial crisis of 2008/09. As leading figures and companies of industry sectors gather at their international and global trade shows, they will take stock of the situation. There will be exchange, collaboration and trade. And, in addition to the economic context, trade shows will continue to bring together people from different nations, cultures and religions, to work together and help their respective industries and economies to grow.”

Over the four day show, Security Essen drew over 40,000 trade visitors from 119 nations and over 1000 exhibitors showcasing a range of products and services. According to show organiser, Messe Essen, one in four visitors placed their orders directly at the show, an increase of 8pc on the previous, 2014, edition, suggesting that the show is not just an opportunity to network and share knowledge, but also a valuable opportunity to do business.

A key theme that emerged from this year’s show is that security is becoming more digital and more networked. On the show floor, exhibitors showcased technology, from controlling access using a smartphone, to mobile 4k surveillance cameras and from building automation to drones.

BSIA member Wavesight Limited exhibited at Essen for the first time, showcasing their wireless radios, Scorpion and Firefly, as well as their security solutions involving hybrid energy, SolarJacket and SunTower. Managing Director of Wavesight, David Saldanha says: “Our participation in Essen 2016 provided us with opportunities in Germany, France, South Africa, Iceland and Romania, enabling us to justify participation and look forward to new business.”

The BSIA adds that, as at other global trade exhibitions, it supported a number of UK companies to attend this year’s Essen through the UK Pavilion.
