Datacard Group announced additions to its desktop products, aimed at government, corporate and school ID card users. The company’s new products include:
The Datacard SD460 card printer and laminator
A new inline lamination module added to the Datacard CD800 card printer
New patent-pending tactile impression feature that makes cards more secure
New serialized laminates with optional integrated bar code reader
Connell Smith, vice president at Datacard Group, said: “As organisations face more serious and escalating security threats, photos and basic identity data are no longer enough to protect identities and facilities. It’s very important for issuers to have a more sophisticated, layered approach to ID card issuance to increase security and durability in their card programs—while keeping costs low. We continue to enhance our desktop family for exactly that reason – to give issuers next-generation technologies and more efficient solutions to help prevent ID card counterfeiting and fight against fraud.”
The CD800 card printer with laminator and new SD460 card printer uses direct-to-card printing, as well as encodes and laminates in one pass, offering the makers say faster throughput. Both printers offer a new tactile feature that distinctly and physically impresses a tamper-evident image into the card substrate at the time of personalising it, creating an extra level of an overt security feature that makes any alteration attempts to the card visible.
Issuers can also combine the printers with the new Datacard DuraShield clear or holographic overlays—which are difficult to remove intact, and are it is claimed four times more durable than basic topcoats. This according to the company allows the card to not only be more secure, but have a long card life because they will be resistant to abrasion, chemicals and normal wear and tear.
Datacard Group offers serialised laminates that work with the optional integrated bar code reader to enhance security and audit control of supplies. This helps deter alteration and counterfeiting of documents. This optional security feature is available with DuraGard and DuraShield custom laminates and overlays.
