Securitas has taken two awards in recognition of a risk management model, developed for one of its customers, which has resulted the guard firm says in a substantial security spend reduction in just two years.
The security firm was named winner in the Enterprise Risk Management Project of the Year category at this year’s IFSEC Security & Fire Excellence Awards, at the Park Lane Hilton, London on Thursday, November 27. That followed a win in the ‘Physical Guarding’ category at this year’s CIR Risk Management Awards, at the Millennium Hotel, Mayfair on Thursday, November 13, where Securitas’ Director of Risk Management, Peter Speight, also picked up the award for ‘Risk Manager of the Year’.
The customer, a premier German car manufacturer, had changed security providers a number of times in a relatively short number of years. In order to improve the situation, Securitas believed it was necessary to review the customer’s understanding of security risk analysis and operational security management in order to realise both positive change as well as significant savings.
The model was developed by Peter and a consultant in the field of enterprise risk management and business continuity, Peter Consterdine. After a strategic operations security review, Securitas developed a model for evaluation, analysis and strategy development. According to the contractor, the project has returned impressive results hand-in-hand with significant annual spend reduction.
Peter said: “I’m absolutely delighted and very proud of the whole team. This project has extended far beyond the creation of an enterprise security risk management model. We now have detailed site incident response plans, business continuity plans and crisis management plans firmly in place, all complying with the relevant BS and ISO standards. And, not only has the model produced substantial savings since 2012, but has resulted in a competent, well trained security force, capable of demonstrating their ability to face and manage crisis and incident response to incidents of all types and size.”
The security team now works within what the contractor calls a new, risk-intelligent environment, where they lead the integration of whole site training, generating co-operation across the site and beyond.
Peter added: “The key to success was making the project sustainable.
