Power contract

by msecadm4921

Senator Security reports that it is delivering security services within the Utility and Energy sector for RWE npower at their facility at Aberthaw Power Station in south Wales. RWE npower is a UK energy company, part of the RWE Group, which serves about 6.5 million customers and produces about a tenth of the electricity used in the UK.

The site is on the shoreline with a public promenade skirting a large part of the site. Required was an awareness of the potential hazards given heavy industrial and rail traffic. Security covers gatehouse access control, public visits and tours, heavy mobile plant usage and patrols to all areas of the 185 hectare site. There are also partner or associated operations on-site with multiple vehicle and HGV movements. The site has construction, annual maintenance outage programmes and development projects – described by the contractor as an evolving and dynamic environment in which to deliver security.

There are several hundred people on the site at any time; contractors, suppliers, office and operational staff with public visitors attending The Aberthaw Centre for Energy and Environment (ACE2) – a facility for schools, colleges and community groups throughout south Wales that provides interactive education. Senator’s team has to be vigilant and aware at all times: to provide a courteous service to all, protecting people, property and assets from trespass, vandalism, sabotage, theft and malicious damage. Senator adds that it provides a highly visible deterrent using their 4×4 patrol vehicles; providing a ‘preventative policy’ while ready to respond to an incident within minutes.

Robbie Ryan, Director of Senator Security, said: “The Aberthaw Power Station project is a very good example of a successful integration of a security provider into an environment that has the challenges of day-to-day operations, major on-site heavy plant and rail logistics plus public access… this was a seamless transition from the previous provider with, already, an enhanced security service provision being delivered. Customer satisfaction is at the core of our continued success; the security team here is exceptionally good with excellent site knowledge and clearly a strong working relationship with the site managers and key personnel. Senator is gaining a reputation for delivering value-added security within specialist environments and sectors; having the Network Rail Framework Agreement and working with South Wales Ports has equipped us with the skills and knowledge that are transferable to the Utilities and Energy sectors and we are proud to have been selected to provide the vital security services needed for a facility such as this.”
