Poppy collection help

by Mark Rowe

During the annual fund-raising by selling of poppies before Remembrance Day, November 11, the security contractor G4S supported the Royal British Legion by providing secure vehicles and volunteers, as well as logistical help to transport and count the money collected by 2,500 uniformed personnel, veterans and volunteers stationed across London on October 30.

G4S employees from across the region volunteered to help and vehicles and equipment were provided by the contract firm. These vehicles and their crews covered ten routes and visited more than 50 Tube stations across London, to collect the money throughout the day and transport it to the Royal British Legion hub. These vehicles were managed by volunteers from the G4S operational team, who had planned and oversaw the logistics of each vehicle on the day. Volunteers from the security firm and the Royal British Legion were also stationed at the hub to facilitate the counting of the money.

Peter Neden, Interim Regional President G4S UK and Ireland said: “We were delighted to be able to play a part in supporting the Royal British Legion at London Poppy Day this year. G4S takes great pride in its relationship and work with the UK Armed Forces and worked hard to ensure the day was a success.”
