GSL Dardan, the East Anglian based security company, has recently added to its drugs dog team with the recruitment of 13-month old Woody Dardan. Woody is a Springer Spaniel, a breed widely used for scent detection work for controlled substances. Woody will join the GSL Dardan drugs dog section, drug dog Ben in Aberdeen and drug dog Meg in East Anglia.
GSL Dardan is an associate company member of the National Association of Security Dog Users (NASDU). All of the guard firm’s drug detection dogs must undergo initial pro-active drug dog training courses. His handler, Mark Collings, attended a three-week NASDU-approved training course in London with their trainer John Prater. They covered both practical and theory elements of dog handling, welfare and search deployment, followed by a practical assessment for both Mark and Woody, besides a written examination for Mark.
Woody and Mark both passed the course, and are now operational, delivering drug detection searches for GSL Dardan’s client base. Their services include mail search facilities, baggage search at aviation facilities and bespoke searches as required. Mark Collings, Woody’s handler, said: “I’m looking forward to being deployed with Woody and delivering the same quality of service that our clients have been accustomed to.”
