by Mark Rowe

The event and crowd management security contractor Showsec picked up a industry award for the second time in 24 hours at a London ceremony. The second honour saw them acclaimed as Best Security Company at the Event Production Awards when they were held at Earls Court 2. This followed an eighth successive accolade at the TPi Awards where they were named Favourite Security/Crowd Management Company. Director Simon Battersby joined more than 600 at the Earls Court dinner. Simon Battersby and Nick Lucy are pictured receiving the Best Security Award.

“This is the second year running that we have succeeded in completing this double, which is a tremendous achievement for everyone,” he said. “To be honoured by your industry peers in this way is extremely satisfying, especially when it recognises our commitment to initiatives which raise the standard of security practices and deliver the best possible service for our clients.”

He added: “The submission for this award focused in particular on our work with the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit in endeavouring to combat mobile phone crime at major live music events across the United Kingdom, while it also highlighted our pro-active anti-drugs campaign implemented at V Festival in Staffordshire. Recognition of this type gives us all further encouragement as we endeavour to push the bar even higher and remain at the forefront of industry change.”

The category of Best Security Company was one of 18 awards handed out at the ceremony which was hosted by television entertainer Jarred Christmas. Showsec had been short-listed in nominations for the Event Production Awards when they were held for the third time since their introduction in 2012.The celebration recognises and celebrates the contribution of top suppliers, manufacturers, teams and individuals to the success of a wide range of events.
