Compass raise £140k for charity

by Mark Rowe

Compass Group UK & Ireland has raised over £140,000 for Cancer Research UK.

During its eighth year of partnership with the charity, the services contractor Compass has supported particular initiatives such as the Winter Run, Britain’s Biggest Breakfast, Magical May and the London Marathon.

The Britain’s Biggest Breakfast campaign, saw units of the company organise fundraising activities over a week in March. The run up to this week was supported by a digital media campaign, where Compass employees were asked to post footage of them making their breakfasts, to raise awareness of the week. Magical May, is another Compass wide initiative, where each of its 15,000 units were challenged to raise at least £100 for CRUK during the month.

As a result, the past few months has seen thousands of colleagues take part in locally planned fundraising activities from bake sales, quizzes, fancy dress days, raffles, auctions and donation stations. Some of the events this year included a 20 mile walk through Derby, a sponsored walk through Sandringham Hospital to Sandringham Estate, and a charity music night in Uxbridge.

Duncan Gray, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “I am delighted by the tremendous fundraising efforts of our employees across the company. It has been really inspiring to see our units come together for a common cause. With such a strong start to the first half of this year I am confident that we will hit our fundraising target of £2m by March 2017, to help beat cancer sooner.”

Zoe Dean from Cancer Research UK added: “We would like to thank Compass Group UK & Ireland for their exceptional fundraising efforts throughout our partnership so far. Raising over £140,000 in the first half of the year is a great achievement which will make a real difference to our research efforts.”
