Sodexo, the contract services company, was highly commended in the Employer of the Year category at the 2015 Lloyd’s Bank National Business Awards.

Some 1200 attended the gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Tuesday, November 10, with a video address from the Prime Minister David Cameron and speech from former US astronaut and second man to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin.

A range of industries were represented in the shortlists for the awards, with companies from recruitment and children’s clothing, to pet food and online marketing selected. The scale of the finalists was as varied, with companies turning over less than £1m or employing 20 people to over 70,000 people.

Sodexo was one of five finalists in the 18 categories to be highly commended. The judges felt it was important to highlight the excellent achievements of Sodexo in managing to unite a company with over 1850 sites and over 34,000 employees – “we were particularly impressed with their direction and support for managers, and the smart targets the company has set for itself to ensure employees feel a part of the team regardless of where they work day to day”.

Andy Rogers, HR director, Sodexo UK and Ireland said afterwards: “We are delighted to have received this commendation. People are at the heart of our business and our success. Our mission is to improve quality of life for our clients, customers and employees, so being recognised in this category is both an honour and testament to our commitment to be an employer of choice.”
