Alternative recruitment hailed

A West Midlands security firm is urging more companies to get unemployed people back into work. Integrity Security Group says that it was struggling to find experienced individuals. Rather than contacting the same agencies, the management team of Will Adams and Tony Turner, pictured left and right, decided to look at alternative recruitment policies, one of which focused on people looking for jobs.

The Solihull-based firm enlisted the support of local job centres and related bodies to 12 months on have taken on their 30th member of staff who was previously unemployed.

The firm says this approach has been fundamental; the Security Industry Authority Approved Contractor has acquired local contractor Roscot Security and increased turnover from £1.1m to £2.4m.

Tony said: “We have a different way of doing things to most of the security sector and, as such, we always like to try and get individuals in who we can develop in the ‘Integrity’ way, Both myself and Will have been made redundant in the past so we know what it’s like to lose a job and the frustration of being unemployed. We know, from personal experience, if you give people an opportunity to prove themselves and offer them the best possible training, they can be a great asset to your business. Depending on their levels of experience, we give all employees a full induction programme and continuous on-the-job development, as most contracts are bespoke and have different requirements.

“There is also training in health and safety, first aid, securing their CSCS card and even opportunities to work towards NVQ qualifications in specialist areas.”

Paul Brotheridge joined the company after six months of being out of work. The 24 year-old from Castle Bromwich has recently been appointed as the concierge for the prestigious Latham House office development in Birmingham. There he’s welcoming visitors, organising deliveries, admin and looking after health and safety.

Paul said: “I’ve been with Integrity for seven months now and am really enjoying my job and the different challenges it provides. I worked with my local Jobcentre Plus to gain my Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence and EOS, the agency who helped me, introduced me to Integrity.

“It seemed like a really good company that suited my personality so after a screening process I was selected to join. Seven months later and I’m now looking after a high quality office development in the City where I grew up. My confidence has grown and I’ve learned new skills as well. My long-term aim is to progress into management and, outside of work, to buy my own house…two ambitions I would not have thought possible last Summer.”

Established in 2008, Integrity works for clients across the Midlands, providing cleaning, facilities management and security services to local authorities, distribution companies, property groups, shopping centres and manufacturers. The company, which employs 150 staff, adds that it has invested £100,000 in additional vehicles, a new website and an extension at its head office in Highland Road, Solihull.

Will Adams, Director, added: “The acquisition of Roscot Security was a milestone in our expansion and this has helped us add significantly to our turnover and take on new contracts, especially in the Black Country. We are hoping to hit £2.8m by the end of 2014 and this will undoubtedly mean taking on more people.”
