Fire doors

by Mark Rowe

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the physical security product company, now offers fire doors that provide the firm says both integrity and insulation.

In most applications, fire doors are required to prevent the transfer of flames from the exposed side of a door to the unexposed side, to satisfy UK Building and Fire Regulations. In some specific or high risk areas, it would also be important to inhibit heat transferring from one side of the door to the other.

Brian Sofley, Managing Director at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said: “It is impossible to avoid every single fire hazard within any environment. Therefore, at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, we want to ensure that the fire performance of our doorsets is as advanced as possible, to safeguard people and property in the event of an emergency.

“We now offer a range of fire doors that have been independently tested to European standards to deter heat from transferring from one side of the door to the other; effectively our doors work as a barrier for flames and heat spreading. This can reduce the risk of objects spontaneously combusting on the side of the door that is not exposed to flames. This is particularly useful for applications such as special equipment rooms, storage facilities or to support protected means of escape.”

The ASSA ABLOY fire doors include E30 – E240 for integrity and EI30 – EI120 for integrity and insulation in accordance with EN1634-1. Visit http://www.assaabloy.co.uk/Security-Doors.
