Web security channel

by Mark Rowe

CensorNet, a cloud security product company, says that it intends to shake up the web security channel. The company’s CEO, Ed Macnair, described it as a market that has been left ‘stagnant for too long’. A former Websense Channel Manager, Nikki Simpson is heading the firm’s distribution channel.

Cloud application adoption and BYOD is growing and CIOs and IT departments are under pressure to provide employees with web access. There is also the challenge of controlling the use of cloud applications without compromising corporate data security and preventing Shadow IT, CensorNet says. The firm claims web security solutions designed over a decade ago no longer address the needs or the complexity of web access and cloud applications.

Ed Macnair, CEO of CensorNet, says: “Much of the web security market has become dominated by large vendors and has seen no real product developments since the early 2000’s. Solutions such as Websense and Trustwave’s WebMarshal were developed before the era of Facebook and the vast number of cloud applications that we use in business today. Consequently resellers’ options have become increasingly limited, leaving a huge swathe of channel partners disillusioned with nowhere to go.

“Organisations need visibility into the use of cloud applications and understand the risk they present. Today’s web security solutions must offer cloud application control capabilities beyond the traditional security functionality. This presents a huge opportunity for CensorNet and one that we intend to seize. We have some exciting new product developments in the coming months and we will be looking to the channel to push our solutions far and wide.”
