EEMA rebrand

by Mark Rowe

EEMA – the European association for e-identity and security – has undergone a visual brand development by design studio Graven. The association – that counts the European Commission and Microsoft among its partners – specialises in digital identity and cyber security. It provides opportunities for knowledge sharing and networking through events such as conferences, seminars and workshops. Also Graven is behind the newly launched website for EEMA.

Professor Janice Kirkpatrick, Designer and Creative Director at Graven, and a brand expert said: “We were really delighted to work with David Goodman on this important web-based visual branding project, especially as EEMA is the European expert in cyber security. We used our bespoke brand-building process, BuildMyBrand™, to organise the sitemap, homepage and key characteristics that would drive the visual design. This ensured that EEMA’s brand was clearly defined and could be implemented systematically and consistently across all media from the website to stationery and exhibitions. Brands only become brands when they are recognised and this means they have to ‘stand still’ for long enough for customers to ‘see’ them. Consistency can also create an impression of organisational scale and control that can help small businesses grow and reassure customers and users that the organisation is legitimate and can be trusted – this was especially important for EEMA.”

About EEMA

Established in 1987, EEMA’s community of members includes technical and business representatives from multi-nationals, service providers, consultancies, in addition to academia, local, national and European governmental agencies. David Goodman, Executive Director at EEMA said: “Having worked with Janice and her team on a highly successful corporate branding project fifteen years ago, the opportunity to work with Graven again proved irresistible. Working with Graven was again both a personal delight and a highly focussed professional engagement. The new website is clean, strikingly elegant and, compared with our previous website, extremely flexible and manageable – all the things we asked for in our brief. I absolutely recommend working with Graven for any company or organisation looking to create a strong visual identity that will help transform their business. Both the visual identity and the website are already adding tremendous value.” Visit eema.org.

Meanwhile Dr Emma Philpott will deliver an opening keynote at Information Security Solutions Europe (ISSE) titled ‘Engaging Small Companies in Cyber Security’. Dr Philpott joins The European Data Protection Supervisor, Giovanni Buttarelli in opening the event, in Berlin on November 10 and 11, 2015.

Dr Philpott is Director and CEO of the IASME Consortium Ltd, a company that through its work with the UK government has certified more than 300 companies against the Cyber Essentials scheme. Dr Philpott is also Founder and Manager of the UK Cyber Security Forum, a network of more than 350 small companies working in cyber security across the UK. Dr Philpott says: “Low levels of cyber security in small companies is increasingly recognised as a threat to large organisations and consumers alike. This is a difficult problem to solve and I look forward to sharing our experience of certifying a wide range of small companies to a very basic level of cyber security at the ISSE conference.”

Executive Director of event hosts EEMA, David Goodman, adds: “The impact of a security breach on a small company can be terminal, damaging not only infrastructure but also disrupting day-to-day business and harming brand credibility. What is more, we have also observed incidents where cyber-criminals have targeted small companies as the path of least resistance, through which to attack larger enterprises with whom they are working. Therefore, it is in the interests of organisations of all sizes, both public and private throughout Europe to have the best possible safeguards in place.”

ISSE will be co-located with the Open Identity Summit 2015. ISSE 2015 is hosted by EEMA and TeleTrusT. Now in its 16th year, ISSE 2015 is supported by Adobe (Platinum supporter), SerNet (Gold supporter) and Secunia (Silver supporter). Visit: www.isse.eu.com.
