Video on the body

by Mark Rowe

The Dutch company Zepcam’s T1 helmet camera now comes with the Zepcam 4G Module. This makes it possible to stream live video images over 4G and 3G networks to control rooms, computers and mobile devices. Live streams can be integrated with the Milestone IP video management software, pictured. Video sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOcKf1MrveY

The Zepcam Live Module can be connected to the company’s recorder, and can be flexibly worn on the body. Besides video the product can transmits GPS location or biometric data such as heart rate. The makers say that the product is able to record and stream TV quality video (D1, 720×576 resolution).

Press the stream button results and live images go to a control room, tablet PC or browser.

Zepcam’s body-worn video cameras have been trialled in 2013 by Europa, the FM services company. The Dutch firm’s cameras stream live footage and audio from a security officer wearing it to the control room. Shopping centre uses include to protect staff and liability, record verbal abuse and intimidation, and help to prevent ‘slip and trip’ insurance claims. Europa head of security, Ian Pugh, said: “The main security challenges in a shopping centre environment involve the public. You have to make them feel safe and secure. It’s my job as head of security to look at innovations and integrate the latest technology with our manned guarding services to benefit our clients.” Zepcam is supplied by Interconnective Security Products.

Zepcam was among exhibiting at Milipol 2013 in Paris in November. Zepcam showed:

– 4G streaming Body Worn Video solution
– new high end WDR camera for the T1 system
– products for automotive video streaming; and
– Zepcam Critical Communications box, a standalone solution to create a Wi-FI network.

Zepcam was part of the Holland Innovation group of companies: SecureOne (under vehicle inspection), K10 Working Dogs (canines) and AerialTronics (drones).

Zepcam started in The Netherlands four years ago with bodycams, or body worn video systems, including a supporting video platform for storing and viewing of recorded video content. Now the company offers mobile cameras for security and other industries and usages, including live streaming over 3G and 4G.
