Staff satisfaction hailed

by Mark Rowe

Oprema, the UK multi-brand distributor of security equipment, has hailed the results of the first round of a staff survey.

The company says its first Hive employee engagement survey was part of its commitment to providing a great place to work for existing staff, as well as wanting to gather insight into how to improve to keep attracting the best people in the industry.

The initial baseline survey took into account factors such as staff opinions of the firm as a place to work, how supported staff feel by their managers, overall staff satisfaction and how engaged staff are with their work. The results of this baseline survey have been incredibly positive, with some of the highlights including scoring an average of 9.4/10 when asked ‘how likely is it that you see yourself working here in a year’s time?’ and qualitative feedback including:

“With a good vision of where we’re going, a solid managerial team and an excellent group of peers, Oprema really is a good place to come to work every day.”

“Amazing team and atmosphere, really enjoy working here.”

“Oprema are very supportive, we are a big family and it’s a nice environment to work in.”

The firm adds that an anonymous micro-survey will be run every fortnight to give staff the opportunity to have an honest say about what’s working well for them and what could be improved, and enable management team to listen. Running these surveys so regularly will allow the company to respond to the way people feel.

Matthew Epps, Managing Director at Oprema, says: “We’re always trying to improve the way we engage with key stakeholders, including our employees. As part of our commitment to providing a great place to work and in order to attract the very best new people to our already strong team, we recently completed a Hive employee engagement survey to help us understand, measure and improve engagement levels in our workforce on an ongoing basis.

“It’s fantastic for me to see that people feel so good about working here, but we don’t want to rest on our laurels. This initial survey provides us with a baseline against which to measure our progress over time. Thinking about it from a marginal gains approach, which has become more widely heard about thanks to Team GB’s cycling success at the Olympics, listening to our staff on an ongoing basis and making small changes to the way we do things will, when aggregated over a period of time, add up to a significant improvement and give us a real competitive advantage.”

Natasha Owens, HR Manager at Oprema, adds: “The response rate to our first survey was very high and the feedback from staff has been really positive. There’s a real sense that everyone is invested in the company and there is very much a family feel to the business, but to have the results of the survey confirm this is really great.”

The distributor says the results come at an important time, as the company is going through growth and gearing up to move to a new and larger premises.

Epps adds: “Oprema is only as good as the people we employ, and we’re fortunate that our team is made up of some of the best in the business. We wanted to ensure that everyone feels positive and secure about the changes ahead so that we retain these excellent people and also attract great new people to our growing team. This is crucial in allowing us to provide the very best level of service and support for our customers.”

In advance of moving to its larger premises, the company will soon be recruiting for a range of roles. Epps adds: “I’m really excited about this next stage of growth for Oprema, and it’s really encouraging to see that we have the support of the existing team. We’ll be looking to grow this team very soon so we’ll be seeking people to help us deliver a continued high level of support for our customers. In return, we aim to provide our employees with a great place to work, with other like-minded people.”
