Gleneagles CCTV tower on shortlist

by Mark Rowe

VPS Site Security are among firms shortlisted as finalists for the IFSEC Security and Fire Excellence Awards 2014. They are in the CCTV System of the Year category. The technology was used to help to secure Ryder Cup TV coverage last month, protecting the television compound at Gleneagles – see also the November print issue of Professional Security magazine, in the spending the budget section from page 18.

VPS Site Security is the specialist site security arm for VPS, a vacant property management company; and their SmartTower CCTV, pictured, has already garnered New Product of the Year and US Government Security Awards in 2014. The winner of this latest award will be announced in November.

SmartTower CCTV is designed the makers say for use in remote, vulnerable or temporary locations such as on construction, utility and critical infrastructure sites. It combines an alloy sub frame, pneumatic mast, power sources, cameras and sensors, allowing it to be deployed in any terrain, it is claimed, even in harsh weather. It can be powered by AC power, wind, solar or hydrogen fuel cell, so that the SmartTower can operate even if core utilities are not easily available.

Anthony Owen, the Managing Director for VPS Site Security, says: “IFSEC receives hundreds of applications for these awards, so to be a finalist alongside the likes of Panasonic and Siemens is recognition for the intelligence and thought that has gone into the design. SmartTower is just one of a raft of innovations unique to VPS which our customers benefit from, giving them a protective edge in securing their vacant properties or remote sites, and reducing the risks of theft, vandalism, squatting or weather damage. We’re passionate about protecting empty premises, and our staff work hard to keep our market leading position.”
